WHO AM I ?

I'm a guy who likes baseball enough to travel to a time-locked Communist country during the MLB offseason in order to see more baseball.

There’s been big news. No idea how it’s playing in the U.S., if at all ("Obama surrenders to Communists"?), but it’s big news for both countries.

I’m talking of course about the announcement that the U.S. is normalizing relations with Cuba, including e...

Oops. Kinda neglected to write. Game 7 is old news. How ‘bout that Madison Bumgarner, huh? He’s pretty good at the baseball. Also, can someone explain why I saw signs with “#moosedong” on them during the Series? Obviously it relates to Mike Moustakis...

Tonight was the first time I saw a player (for any team) get booed, but starting a game by giving up five runs on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning probably earned it, even if you play for the home nine.

Just saw a dude flash a dollar bill at...

We got a bit of a cold snap this weekend. Relatively speaking, of course. Everyone’s been walking around wearing jackets. A guy at the game today wanted to sell me an Industriales scarf. I’m pretty sure the high today was about 70.

Just had a 9-3 doub...

During that awful rainy week, I finally made it to the Casa de la Musica in Centro. There’s another one in the suburb of Miramar for added confusion. Compounding the confusion is that the one in Centro is also known as the one in Habana, or the one on Galeano. Of cours...

The beginning of the last week in Cuba of phase one of my grand plan.

Last week I lost a lot of daytime sightseeing due to a solid week of rain. There was some sort of tropical system parked over Mexico that was causing the rain, according to my limited...

So it’s been a few days. Manuel, my landlord, came to my door Thursday to tell me the Industriales were back in Havana and playing at 7 against Sancti Spiritus! Of course I went.

$3 to get in plus $5 for a ride from Manuel in his Peugeot is a bit steep...

Kind of a gross, rainy day all day today from about 2 on. I went out this morning, just sort of walking spiral patterns from my block.

(I have Las Tunas at Matanzas on while I write. The Cuban national anthem is like 90 seconds long. I wonder if your Ya...

The "honey shot" is alive and well for Cuban baseball broadcasts. During breaks in the action, or coming back from one of the few "commercial" breaks --

The TV just showed a dancing crocodile mascot for Mantanzas. The poor

bastard inside ...

-- Anyway,...

Quiet day today, mostly stayed in and watched baseball on TV. Hit Vedado for a second -- the Hotel Nacional has computers for $2.50 for 15 minutes. Not the best price, but when you know other hotels have one- or two-hour minimums, at $10 an hour ...

And...
